Despite what one could imagine, the digital world is not virtual when it comes to energy consumption. According to the US Natural Resources Defense Council report, in 2013, U.S. data centers consumed an estimated 91 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to the annual output of 34 large (500-megawatt) coal-fired power plants.

That is why Garnier decided to tackle this issue in partnership with Microsoft. Since 2012, we launched an IT innovative approach which has led to 100% carbon neutral website through energy efficiency initiatives. 44% of the electricity used by our datacenter comes from wind, solar and hydroelectric. Our goal is to pass the 50% milestone by the end of 2018, and reach 60% in the early next decade.
